Essence of Mercy – Manifesto & Guild Rules (updated for BFA)
Welcome to Essence of Mercy, the manifesto and rules below are written to be as brief as possible, if you have any questions please ask an Officer. What do we stand for?
Our goal is to provide a mature, fun, social, and exciting environment where people can relax without fear of discrimination or abuse. At our core we are a social guild, because chatting, laughing and having fun is what makes playing games awesome! We experience all aspects of WoW, and have a healthy interest in endgame content such as raiding, achievements, and of course the usual levelling and questing fun!
What's our attitude to raiding and other organised progression content?
We raid because raiding is a large part of the endgame content, and because raiding is darn well fun! We encourage a focussed yet fun raiding atmosphere but are not hardcore in our mentality. Raiding is not mandatory and there are no set teams, no one is forced to do anything to be a part of EoM. However if you do sign up to a raid, you are expected to hit the entry requirements set by the Raid Officer, know your class and all its utilities, and to have watched some videos on strategy. Noone is going to kick you from a raid for making mistakes, but for our progression raids you will be expected to hit a certain skill level, and will be given friendly advice on how to improve. We are not elitist, we don't expect cutting edge DPS numbers, we just want to succeed and progress, something which is only possible if everyone pulls together in the same direction.
Our goal is to clear the Heroic difficulty level of the current tier before the next is released, something that we're consistently doing at present!
If you are new to raiding, don’t be put off, we are full of fantastic members who will help you learn the ropes, gear up, advise on your build etc - if it’s something you wish to do. :-)
Who are we?
We require all our members to be 18 years or over, purely due to the difference in attitude towards the game from younger players, which tends to clash with the general attitude of the guild.
We talk in English, but we have members from all Europe, but particularly The Netherlands and UK.
Be nice, be respectful, and be polite to all players, either EoM members or not
We do not tolerate racism, sexism, or any form of legitimate discrimination
Do not use /spit type emotes and don’t tell people to “FFS” do things
Play fair - no griefing, trolling, harassing low levels, or ruining another players gaming experience aside from standard gaming (e.g. PvP)
Do not swear or talk about adult themes in guild chat for the sake of it. Good natured adult banter is encouraged, expletives for the sake of expletives, are not
As a general rule of thumb, do not swear in guild chat until after 11pm realm time, we like to keep our green chat clean
Voice chat (currently over Discord) is slightly more liberal, especially in closed user groups. But always be aware who is in your channel, and avoid causing undue offence
Do not post graphic/obscene/adult images on Discord or the website, or link to them in guild chat
Greet, Gratz, and Goodbye - Of course it's not always possible, but try and greet those that login, gratz achievements, and say goodbye before you logoff
Respect the privacy of others – do not record audio or video of anyone in the guild without first obtaining their permission
Raids and other events are entirely voluntary, we will not force you to attend anything organised by the guild
Raids and other events may have gear and skill requirements, you are expected to know your class/spec and hit these requirements in order to join.
We are here to help – If you want help with your gear, advice on your build, assistance with addons and macros – ASK, we will always offer help to improve your game
We actively encourage everyone to use the guild bank, use their repair allowance, and donate and withdraw items.
Guild bank access begins when you are a full member of the guild.
Additional information on guild banks can be found HERE
You begin EoM life as an “Initiate”, once we get to know each other (usually around a month) you will be promoted to Member
You must always have an EoM “Main”. This can be changed, it just helps us to know what to call you
Alts are permitted, and you may have as many as you like within the guild. They will all be set to the same rank as your main
If you leave the guild voluntarily, or are kicked due to bad behaviour, you will not routinely be allowed back in. Each case will be discussed with the Officers on its own merit
Initiates that have not been online in over a month will be removed from the guild
Members that have not been online in over a year will have their alts removed from the guild, but their main will remain indefinitely
Veterans and upwards will retain all their characters forever, unless Blizzard decide to lower the guild cap, or we reach it due to EoM growth
The Guild Master’s decision is final
Initiate - You have been accepted into the guild on a trial basis to see if you like us, and we like you
Muted - What did you do? The rank that should never have anyone in it. A temporary place for those that might be a touch drunk or have overstepped the rules. Cannot talk in gchat.
Member - You have been fully accepted into the guild from your Initiate status, you can now withdraw and donate to the guild bank, and have a repair allowance
Fishing Royalty - A rank which changes name and members over time, usually social based (non-raiding). Currently for those that did some crazy fishing to really help the guild with Midnight Salmon to create feasts for the raid
Veteran - For those who have been in the guild for a looooong time, including Ex-Officers
Raid Leader - Leaders and organisers of raids, working closely with the Raid Officer
Officer - Those who manage the guild, apply the rules, and organise everything
Guildmaster - Looks after us all :-)
Recruitment is not always open, please check the Join Us! section of the site. We try not to grow too quickly so we keep the family atmosphere and get to know each other.
If you are interested in joining us then please poke any member of our guild and they'll direct you to an Officer for a quick chat, or fill out the short form on this site :)
We never look for specific classes or specs, we recruit players not characters. Good luck with your application, and I hope to see you soon :-)
Essence of Mercy is one of the oldest guilds on Doomhammer, and was created from the merge of Horda Femina and Hordus Masculus. Horde Femina existed since beta, a guild with only female characters (but both male and female players). Eventually many players with male characters wanted to join the guild and thus Hordus Masulus was created. For a while both guilds tried to communicate with each other via a global channel but it didn't work so well and a merge of both guilds was voted in....and Essence of Mercy was born. Otanka was the founder of the guild developing a successful, very happy, community driven, almost "family feel" to what ended up being quite a large guild. On 1st June 2011, Otanka retired and handed over the guild to her trusted friend Foxx. On 31st January 2012 Foxx passed his managerial duties in WoW to Demeanor to concentrate on SWTOR. However, SWTOR didn't take off in ways that many of us expected it to, and in July 2012 Foxx returned as GM. With his wife continuing to churn out kids Foxx couldnt spend the time on the guild that he would like and passed GM to Gorsha in June 2014. Foxx then retook the helm again as Gorsha stepped down in June 2015.
We have over 150 unique players and Essence of Mercy is one of, if not the, largest guild on Doomhammer. Alts are always welcome which is why our total membership is now over 400.
